 ABOUT HUMANITIES & SOCIAL SCIENCES RESEARCH PROGRAMME (HSSRP SECONDARY)

OVERVIEW

OBJECTIVES

The programme aims to provide Secondary 3 pupils with an interest in Humanities and Social Sciences an opportunity to carry out research under the guidance of experts in the field from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, National University of Singapore, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Nanyang Technological University and the Humanities and Social Studies Education Academic Group, National Institute of Education.

PROGRAMME

This programme comprises of four components.

  • Mentorship Attachment : This is the period when participants work with their mentors on projects proposed by the mentors. Mentors and participants will meet for discussions for a minimum of 3 contact hours (excluding correspondences and editing of reports).
  • Publication of Project Papers : This offers a platform for the participants to share their research findings. At the end of the mentorship period, participants will submit their papers to their teacher-supervisors and mentors for vetting and approval for publication.
  • Project Review : Selected participants will be given the opportunity to present their papers to a review panel. The panel will shortlist projects to be presented at the Symposium.
  • Symposium : This symposium will offer selected participants the opportunity to communicate their research findings to others.

SELECTION

The programme is open to Secondary 3 pupils. Interested pupils are required to submit an application form and a research proposal to indicate their interest in participating in the programme.

The teachers will also provide input as to the suitability of the pupil for the programme.

Pupils will be selected based on their research proposal, Individualised Research Study (IRS) or Individualised Study Options (ISO) project and feedback/recommendations from their teachers.
